Microsoft Office December 2017 Patch Day   

Microsoft released updates for Microsoft Office 2010, 2013 and 2016 on the December 2017 Microsoft Office Patch Day.

The company releases non-security updates for supported versions of Office on the first Tuesday of each month, similarly to how it releases security updates for Windows and Office on the second Tuesday of every month.

HP pushes third-party ink blocking printer firmware update (again)   

Hewlett Packard (HP) released a new firmware for the company's Officejet printers that appears to block third-party ink from functioning correctly.

The company caused quite the uproar a year ago when it released a firmware for some of its printer families that blocked non-HP cartridges in company printers. HP released a firmware update a month later back then that restored functionality for non-HP printer ink.

Microsoft September 2017 Patch Day: issues overview   

Microsoft released updates for all versions of Windows and other company products on the September 2017 Patch Day.

The company listed only three known issues related to updates that it released on that day. While that is better than no information at all, it appears that the updates have caused quite a large number of issues that users and administrators experience when they install or try to install these patches.

A Year Later, You Can Still Upgrade to Windows 10 for Free   

Although Microsoft concluded its free Windows 10 upgrade program on July 29, 2016, the company has yet to close some of the loopholes that it originally opened for folks running Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. If you thought about taking advantage of the launch promotion but never got around to it, there's still nothing stopping you from downloading a free copy of Windows 10 from Microsoft's servers.
