How to protect your Twitter account following major security gaffe   

Twitter has admitted a bug in its system caused all 330m of its users' passwords to appear in plain text, free from the protection provided by encryption.

The social media site alerted its users to the error on Thursday evening, saying the bug had been fixed and an investigation had returned no evidence of a breach or that the data had been misused.

However, Parag Agrawal, Twitter's chief technology officer, urged everyone to change their passwords out of an "abundance of caution."
