Cold weather can have a disastrous effect on your smartphone but there are a few ways to protect it. The problem is often down to the lithium-ion batteries inside gadgets, which are only designed to work within a strict temperature range.
Apple's iPhone, for instance, works best when it's in an environment where the temperature is between 0ºC and 35º C.
Your smartphone's battery life will be shortened when the devices gets too cold, although it should return to normal once it's back in the warm.
