This scam, which originally originated in South Africa, sends users a fake survey pretending to be from supermarket chain Spar, directing them to a fake website designed to harvest details.

Spar Ireland Tweeted, "There is a scam circulating on WhatsApp claiming to be a Spar survey. Do not respond to it, it is a hoax.

"Keep in mind that we will always make mention of a competition either in-store or on our Facebook page."

Fraud prevention service, Cifas, explained that fraudsters "can use the information you share online to pretend to be you and apply for bank accounts, mobile phones, loans or a wide range of other products in your name.
